How to Freeze Strawberries
To ensure the best quality and longest shelf life for your frozen strawberries, follow these essential tips:
- Prevent Clumping with a “Flash Freeze”: Spread whole or sliced strawberries in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze them until solid. This “flash-freeze” method prevents the berries from sticking together, allowing you to easily grab just the amount you need later.
- Remove Excess Moisture: Before freezing, make sure the strawberries are completely dry. Any remaining water will turn into ice crystals and cause the berries to clump.
- Minimize Freezer Burn: Store the flash-frozen berries in an airtight container or freezer bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing.
- Shelf Life: When properly frozen, your strawberries will maintain their quality for 3 to 6 months.
- Smoothie Tip: While you can freeze them whole, slicing the strawberries first will make them easier for your blender to process when you use them in a smoothie.
